Our much anticipated 2006 disk features music by Telemann and Handel in
an immaculate recording directed by Bradley Creswick.
Accrington’s own David Aspin opens the disk with his sensitive and compelling interpretation of the Telemann Viola Concerto, followed by a devastatingly heartfelt rendition by Mezzo, Jane Irwin of Handel’s Scherza Infida. Anyone who has heard her live, will know the emotional power she is capable of - this aria is like a mini opera in the scale of its’ intensity. The antidote follows though, with another aria from the same opera, Dopo notte, displaying her brilliant and enlivening virtuosity. The disk ends with Handel’s 3rd Suite in G (“Water Music”). With a bold and unashamedly fresh interpretation, Bradley Creswick romps through this Suite with a joyous abandon – an uplifting conclusion which epitomises the very essence of the Lancashire Sinfonietta.
This is a superb recording that will make a valuable addition to your CD collection.

Our CD, “Simple Gifts”, features the Fylde’s very own opera diva, Jean Rigby, in Copland’s charming American Folk Songs.
Our
award-winning Producer, Andrew Keener, is a big fan of the Sinfonietta
and this is the second disk he has produced for the orchestra. Despite
a busy schedule at the Berlin Phil recording for Sir Simon Rattle, Andrew
and our cheerful engineer Simon Eadon (formerly of Decca) coaxed the orchestra
through 2 days of intense sessions. The Copland was especially tough work
for Jean, who had to record sublimes lyrical melodies for the hymn-like “Simple
Gifts” and then imitate a farmyard-full of beasts for the “Ol’ Macdonald”-type
folk song “I bought me a cat”. She does do a great duck impression
though!!

Our first disk, "Enterprising Sounds" is
also a great asset to any record collection. Directed by Jacqueline Hartley,
formerly co-leader of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, this disk
has a remarkable freshness and contains some superb music, including an
original work by Sinfonietta horn player, Timothy Jackson.
