Andrew J Smith (Composer)
From an early age Andrew began arranging music to be played by his school concert band and jazz ensemble. His natural ability and love of composing led him to complete an MA in Composition at Leeds College of Music, where he was awarded the prestigious Sir Michael Grady Prize for Composition. Andrew prides himself on writing accessible music for a modern day audience without it becoming pastiche, and believes his compositional voice is functional while often complementing other art forms.
Andrew has held significant residencies with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Lancashire Sinfonietta and Music and the Deaf. Amongst others, he has had arrangements and new works commissioned and performed by; The Halle, The London Sinfonietta, West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, Wakefield Youth Orchestra, The Lancashire Sinfonietta, The Goldberg Ensemble, Manchester Show Choir, Manchester L&G Choir, The Owls, COMA North West, North West Vision & Media, York Theatre Royal, and Music and the Deaf.
