Daniel Brett (Composer)

Daniel Brett is an award winning UK based composer, specialising in composing exciting and accessible music for all kinds of media.

Whilst training classically as a pianist and trumpet player Daniel also took an interest in composing from a young age, writing his first 'musical' for his sisters when he was just 11.

Captivated by film music and its potential for powerful emotional impact after watching 'Wallace and Gromit - The Wrong Trousers' Daniel's passion for composing began.

In 2005 he was awarded the 'Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize' for his tone poem 'Aurora' which saw his work performed the Lancashire Sinfonietta, led by the current leader of the Halle, Lyn Fletcher. The award saw Daniel appointed 'Composer in Residence' for the orchestra's 2005-2006 season with commissions for their Wind Quintet and a role in their '1Odyssey' education project through workshops in schools throughout the North West.

Further success followed in September of the same year when his work 'Etna' was performed by the prestigious ensemble 'Endymion' after reaching the final of the 'Woodhouse Sounds' Composers Competition.

Inspired and encouraged by these successes Daniel gained a Diploma in Media Composition through the 'Music for the Media' course run by the EMMY nominated composer Guy Michelmore where his tutor was Peter Howell, a tutor at the National Film and Television School.

Film music successes so far have seen his work broadcast on BBC2 and Sky (Channel 195) and projects he has scored have gone on to pick up awards at the RTS Student Awards, Bradford Animation Film Festival and shortlisted for the BAA People's Choice. Other projects have been screened at film festivals at home and abroad, including the Cambridge Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

Having gained a BA (Hons) in Humanities, Music and Media Studies and now happily married, Daniel devotes his time to working as a professional composer and sound designer on a variety of different projects. He is also a committed Christian and has written a number of worship songs and carols whilst regularly leading worship with the church music group.

Daniel's recent work includes music to the student action film 'Sari's Journey' as well as music and sound design for a number of different 'Doctor Who' audio dramas, licensed by the BBC and produced by Big Finish Productions. His concert music has sold as far afield as Singapore, New Zealand, Spain and the US.
