Eleanor Hudson (Harp)
Eleanor Hudson began to learn the piano at the age of 5 and the harp at the age of 14. She entered Chethams School of music at the age of 16, continuing her studies at the RNCM where she won the Guinness Scholarship for harp and the RCM where she gained a distinction in harp performance. Eleanor was lucky enough to work at the Royal Exchange theatre for six months after graduating both on and off stage as a musician. She then went on to freelance as guest principal with many orchestras in Britain as well as working for Elvis Costello, Tony Bennett, Brynn Terfyll and Elaine Page. She was also a member of the band for ITV’s ‘Stars in Their Eyes.
Eleanor was awarded the post of Principal Harp with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, a post which she held for 15 years. During her time here Eleanor became interested in music in education, taking music into many schools, hospitals and early years settings. In 2009 Eleanor left the orchestra to gain a Foundation Degree in Assisting Teaching in Learning( with distinction) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Music Education (with merit) graduating from MMU in July 2011.
As well as being a freelance musician working with orchestras such as Lancashire Sinfonia, Opera North and the BBC Philharmonic Eleanor currently visits schools planning and delivering music projects based around cross curricular learning and the National Curriculum. She regularly takes music into special needs schools and also Ashworth Hospital, a high security psychiatric unit.
Eleanor also teaches music at Wincle school in Macclesfield where she is the safeguarding governor.
She is passionate about inclusion and opportunity for all young people to have access to all types of music and music making.
