Rachael Clegg (Oboe)

Born in Colne, Lancashire in 1967, Rachael began playing the oboe at the age of ten, completing her musical education at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Whilst at the RNCM she formed a successful Oboe Trio who were invited to play at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, performing a piece commissioned for them by James McMillan to critical acclaim.

Rachael went on to forge a busy freelance career and was invited to play regularly with BBC Philharmonic, Halle, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra of Opera North and BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

In 1999 she became Principal Oboe with the Manchester Camerata. As a soloist she appears regularly with the orchestra and has recently performed both the Mozart and Vaughan Williams Oboe Concertos. In addition to her commitments with the Manchester Camerata, Rachael is often invited to be guest principal oboe with other orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Rachael is a founder member of the Lancashire Sinfonietta and has enjoyed the position of principal oboe for many years, and she has performed a number of concerti with the orchestra. She also recently gave a very successful recital with international pianist and fellow Lancashire musician, Kathryn Stott.

Rachael very much enjoys teaching and has been a member of staff teaching the oboe at Chethams School of Music for the past 15 years.
