The magical sound of our string section is celebrated in this strings-only evening.
Lyn Fletcher, one of the most talented violinists in the UK (and leader of the Hallé), will direct this remarkably varied programme.
The evening blends the northern sounds of Finland and Norway (Sibelius and Grieg) with the central European flavours of Dvôrák & Suk, with a dash of Swiss/Italian Mendelssohn for good measure!
Suk was an exceptional violinist and chamber musician (and Dvôrák’s son-in-law) and his Serenade is sumptous and unabashedly romantic, beautifully complimented by Dvôrák’s elegiac nocturne.
Famed for his gift of lyricsm, two of Grieg’s delightful Melodies show the composer at his tuneful best and celebrate his anniversary year. The Mendelssohn Sinfonias are a thilling romp of string virtuosity with all the
hallmarks of the wonderful young Mendelssohn.

Open Art Rehearsal & Exhibition.
We are very pleased to be performing as part of the Preston 
Arts Festival, and to celebrate are holding an open rehearsal for artists of all ages and abilities as part of The Big Draw - a massive nationwide festival of drawing events in October. Budding artists are invited to draw our orchestra in rehearsal and the pictures will be enjoyed at our evening concert in Preston.
Paper & materials will be provided and the event is free!
