Concert Season 2009/10
Welcome to our 14th Concert Season!
This season features an outstanding mix of talent, with world class Lancastrian soloists appearing alongside rising new talent.
We are pleased to welcome back Directors Lyn Fletcher (Leader, Hallé), Andrew Watkinson (Leader, Endellion String Quartet) and Bradley Creswick (Leader, Northern Sinfonia). We are also delighted to welcome Terence Charlston back to his home county as director for the first time.
Education is at the very heart of everything the orchestra does, and our Education Programme encompasses a colourful spectrum of activity. Andrew John Smith is our Young Composer in Residence and winner of the 2009 Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize, and his work will feature throughout the concert season and educational activities.
We have established a series with the University of the Third Age and have a wide variety of enjoyable and sociable events to get involved in, as well as offering free tickets to under 25's for almost all our orchestral concerts.
This year we are pleased to announce the development of The Sound Playground, inspired by our hugely popular series of concerts for babies in Children’s Centres – “Mini-Mozart.” This 2-year project is being supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England with families in Burnley.
We are also collaborating on a new resource for Primary Schools with Lancashire, Cumbria and Liverpool Music Services, following the success of our Carnival of the Animals CD Rom.
