Concert Season 2007/8
Welcome to our 12th Concert Season!
This season features an outstanding mix of talent - world class Lancastrian soloists appear alongside the rising talent of the next generation. Two internationally known Lancastrian artists will join the orchestra this season - Jean Rigby (Mezzo-Soprano) and Alfie Boe (Tenor). The orchestra will also feature the young American soprano, Elizabeth Weisberg in our Best of
Baroque programme, a trio of soloists from the internationally acclaimed Royal Northern College of Music in Carmina Burana as well as soloists from the orchestra itself.
We are pleased to welcome back Directors Lyn Fletcher (Leader, Hallé), Andrew Watkinson (Leader, Endellion String Quartet) and Bradley Creswick (Leader, Northern Sinfonia). We are also delighted to be working with Jonathan Morton for the first time, an exciting young violinist who is Artistic Director of the highly acclaimed Scottish Ensemble.
Education is at the very heart of everything the orchestra does, and our Education Programme encompasses a colourful spectrum of activity, including our competition for young composers – “Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize”, work with community artists and filmmakers, concerts in hospitals as well as a robust programme of work in schools.
Music promotes well being in many ways. This year we are pleased to announce the continuation of our hugely popular series of concerts for babies in Children’s Centres – “Mini-Mozart”, as well as a music series in hospitals and care settings in Lancashire.
September 2007 will see the release of our first CD Rom which launches a new partnership with the educational music website – Tuned-In. Over 1 million primary children use the website and Carnival, an exciting interactive project based on Saint Saens “Carnival of the Animals” marks the first in a series of such online projects which will be supplemented by CD Rom, Mastercasts (online masterclasses) and live workshops and performances.
Enjoy the wonderful musical resources of this exceptional orchestra and we look forward to sharing our music in a concert near you soon.
