Since its inception, the Lancashire Sinfonietta has found
a valued part
to play in the musical life of the County and fulfils a unique educational
role as a community orchestra. Projects are devised by expert educational practitioners and delivered by the Sinfonietta's own musicians in schools, children's centres, adult education colleges and community venues across the County.
The Sinfonietta and the educational website Tuned-In have released their first resource for Primary Schools: "Carnaval des Animaux - Carnival of the Animals". Carnival is a cross-curricular resource featuring interactive CD Rom & DVD
with online teacher support for Key Stage 2 students. Projects launched in February 2008 with live workshops, podcasts & mastercasts (online masterclasses), web-conferencing and visits to Wildlife Parks & Aquariums, culminating in a huge Carnival celebration at the Preston Guild Hall on 17th March 2008. In 2008 Fiddlechick will be performing in hospitals and care settings across Lancashire in collaboration with the UK's largest music and health charity - Music in Hospitals. This is the first time the Sinfonietta has worked within the health sector and is a welcome development in our community programme. Fiddlechick (aka Gaynor Sutcliffe - violinist) will be giving 20 concerts during the season with guitarist, Pete Riley. The healing effects of music are well documented and the Sinfonietta is delighted to be working alongside such a worthwhile charity. We encourage you to visit their website to learn more: www.music-in-hospitals.org.uk
