Fiddlechick
“Anyone can play pop music, but she’s a REAL musician" - Student, Burnley College
“She was amazing and the lecture really opened my eyes" - Student, Runshaw College
Lancashire Sinfonietta musician Gaynor Sutcliffe is a versatile, approachable young violinist who is taking lecture demonstrations to secondary schools, colleges and adult learning centers.
By discussing the place classical music has in our daily lives today, she debates the validity of classical versus pop - Bach has endured for 300 years and will continue to be enjoyed, but will we say the same of the Beatles in 300 years time?
Gaynor points out the obvious and less obvious examples of classical music around us in daily life, from film soundtracks to Ibiza dance anthems, from mobile phones to tv adverts, making us aware of how much music affects us.
Fiddlechick uses both acoustic and electric violins, showing how the two compare and contrast using illustrative pieces of music. Accompanied by a live guitarist as well as using pre-recorded music, musical examples and dazzling live improvisations are used to win the audience over!
Gaynor is a friendly, approachable and engaging personality who finds it easy to communicate to large groups of people. As a natural performer, she is able to display her talent without being pretentious, making her the best choice for a discussion which expounds the benefits of 'classical versus pop'.
She convincingly presents the argument that classical music is a meaningful art form to almost every member of society and helps us to recognise a deeper value in classical music.
This lecture demonstration has already been successfully taken to sixth form colleges and adult education centres in Lancashire.
