The Lancashire Music Hub Summer Celebration Concert featuring VOYAGE HOME, an exciting new commission from Lancashire Music Service
Composer: Tom Harrold
With Lancashire Sinfonietta
Young Composer in Residence, Tom Harrold (pictured), has been tasked with bringing 8 different groups from each corner of Lancashire together for this ambitious project, which will see 200 children and young people performing his new work alongside the Sinfonietta's professional musicians.
The groups include young musicians of varying abilities, from complete beginners to semi-professional standard, all representing the breadth of talent in the County. We're also helping to train a brand new SKOOG orchestra - a unique instrument designed for children with special needs - and an iPad orchestra of young people who will be "playing" their iPads as musical instruments for the first time.
Other groups include the Lancashire Youth Brass Band, a samba band and guitar orchestra, and the talented community music group Youth Orbit from Morecambe.
Supported by music education expert David Ashworth, the experience of working with a professional composer and musicians will be a first for most of these young people, and they will come together for this world premiere performance at Preston's Guild Hall.

An evening that promises to be a high point of the musical year celebrating the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth.
Directed by charismatic Italian conductor Marco Fanti (pictured), three of the North-West's leading choirs combine to form a chorus of some 200 voices for a full orchestral performance of Verdi's choral masterpiece.
The Bologna-based conductor renews his collaboration with the Lancashire Sinfonietta, who are joined by a quartet of international soloists headed by Lancashire-born soprano Laurie Ashworth.
