Lancashire Sinfonietta:
Christopher Brooks
Memorial Prize 2009
Honorary Patrons:
Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Mrs Judith Brooks
Applications are now being sought for the 2009 Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize.
This award seeks to encourage young composers in the North West to develop their skills in writing for chamber orchestra by providing a professional performance platform in Lancashire.
The winner will become "Composer in Residence" for the season. The residency will begin with a £1,000 commission for the creation of a new orchestral work to be performed during the Lancashire Sinfonietta’s 14th Concert Season in 2009/10.
Other selected applicants will be offered a place on “The Lancashire Sinfonietta Mentor Scheme”. These composers will be given an orchestral mentor and will be offered access to all orchestral rehearsals and concerts throughout the year. A small number of travel bursaries are available (details available on request).
Established in 2005, the Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize is an annual award set up by the Lancashire Sinfonietta to encourage the professional development of young composers in the North West.
Christopher Brooks was a founder of the orchestra and gave an immense amount of support and encouragement to young musicians during his lifetime. This award is made possible with the support of his friends and family, and with the generous support of Lancashire County Council.
