Our events are:Family Friendly

Dear Friends,

This spring the Sinfonietta is sneaking out of the concert hall and into the jazz club...

We are fusing the strings of the orchestra to a jazz band of soloists, including the amazing saxophonist, Andy Scott. They’ll be directed from the piano by Nick Kok, who has also composed one of the central works of the evening, 7th Degree - a concerto for strings and improvised sax.

Andy and Nick will treat us to a entertaining and invigorating set of special arrangements, including some of our favourite jazz standards and funky and fun works they have written themselves.

As bandleader Paul Whiteman said -
“Jazz tickles your feet;
Symphonies stretch your soul.”

“Free as a Bird” will do BOTH.

Some exciting news to share with you too - we’ve been awarded £100,000 by Arts Council England to launch “The Sound Playground” in Burnley. This 2-year programme will build on the success of our baby series, Mini-Mozart and create a full musical curriculum from 0-4 years. We’ll be in touch with more details soon.

Oh, and did you see our 4-page CD feature in Lancashire Life? I really struggled to get my copy as they flew off the newsagent’s shelves - I hope you got yours!

I’m always delighted to hear from you so feel free to drop me a line: info@bluefroguk.com and I look forward to welcoming you to a concert soon.

Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize
2009 Winner announced:
The winner of our 6th annual Young Composers Award is Andrew Smith.
Andrew, who is a 23 year old graduate of the Leeds College of Music, will become Young Composer in Residence during 2009-10. His passion for community and education work made him a natural choice for the award, which seeks to mentor young composers at a critical stage in their development.
His first commission for the orchestra will premiere in October
at the Preston Arts Festival.
