Dear Friends and Music Lovers,

All the musicians of the Lancashire Sinfonietta send you their warmest wishes for a very music-filled New Year!

We have some unique concerts coming up in 2009 which should get your curiosity going... Over the next 12 months the orchestra is going to be experimenting with all sorts of musical forms and styles, from jazz to tango, Muslim hip-hop and Chinese reworkings of Romantic repertoire.

Trust me - you’ll love every note!

Whatever you do, don’t miss our spectacular concerts in January. The team will be led by Lyn Fletcher, featuring operatic star (and Coppull’s most famous daughter!) Amanda Roocroft. Amanda and Lyn have been planning this programme for years - these symphonic scale works are home territory for Lyn, having performed them countless times with eminent conductors such as Sir Mark Elder at the Hallé. She brings all her skill and passion for the repertoire to the Sinfonietta and has chosen the most imaginative re-orchestrations to display the orchestra at its’ virtuosic best, including the UK premiere of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated by Julian Yu.

There are many more treats to come in 2009. Join our online mailing and you will receive regular updates about our activities.

We’re proud to showcase the extraordinary musical talent Lancashire has in abundance - I look forward to welcoming you to one of our concerts soon

Morecambe and Back
Just before Christmas, Morecambe Bay Primary School hosted the premiere of a film project led by CLEO (Cumbria and Lancashire Education Online). Our young composer in residence, Michael Cutting, worked with our musicians and children from the school to compose and record soundtracks for some turn-of-the-century footage of Morecambe by Mitchell & Kenyon. The results were stunning and I do encourage you to view them:
