Dear Friends and Music Lovers,
I’m delighted to tell you about our forthcoming concerts, which proudly showcase the phenomenal talent Lancashire has to offer!
Our orchestral concerts in June will be directed by one of our most popular directors, Andrew Watkinson. As violinist of the UK’s leading string quartet (The Endellion Quartet) Andrew is undoubtedly the best-qualified director for Barshai’s spine-tingling arrangement of Shostakovich’s 8th Quartet.
With an orchestra packed with soloists we’re never short of inspiration for concerti, so we thought we’d cram 4 of our principal players into one Mozart concerto and show-off. We’re fortunate that BBC Young Musician finalist Angela Barnes has managed to get time off at the London Symphony Orchestra to join us, as has clarinetist Peter Sparks who has just returned to Lancashire from New York City Ballet.
No matter what the Lancashire forecast, we’ll leave you with a sunny glow as the concert concludes with Mendelssohn’s Italian postcard – the ever-lovely Symphony No.4.
There are many more Mini-Mozart concerts this summer and our Open Rehearsal offers budding artists the chance to draw the orchestra, hard at work at the newly refurbished Grand Cinema in Clitheroe.
Thank you for continuing to support Lancashire’s premiere professional orchestra and I hope to welcome you to one of our events soon.

Roaring success at Carnival Concert!
OVER 2,000 children joined the Lancashire Sinfonietta and Carnival team at the Guild Hall in March for a thrilling interactive schools concert.
Lancashire Music Service is offering the Carnival resource to every primary school in Lancashire with the option of live Sinfonietta workshops. This has already seen some exceptional creative work with schools organising their own colourful Carnival celebrations. 150 schools in Cumbria are currently working with the materials and the CD Rom is even being used as far afield as Rome!
Carnival offers a fresh approach to teaching the curriculum and its huge success means that more Sinfonietta-led themes will be released in 2009/10.
Carnival is available from Lancashire Music Service (01257 234450).
Teacher support online at Tuned-in.

| Alfie Boe Resource for Schools |

School children can now learn about "Timbre" and the life of a classical star thanks to online resources by CLEO & the Lancashire Sinfonietta.
Alfie Boe's return to his hometown in March was webcast, filmed and interviewed by students from his old school, Cardinal Allen High School (Fleetwood). The concert sold out in a few hours but fans who couldn't get hold of a ticket can still catch a glimpse of the amazing performance online.
Our international guest artist - cimbalom virtuoso Kálmán Balogh, stunned an audience at Ormskirk & Aughton U3A. Excerpts from this concert will teach children about "Timbre" and includes dazzling playing by our Hungarian friend.
The resources are now available via CLEO, part of the National Education Network (NEN).
