Lions roar to sound of new school music project

"Le Carnaval des Animaux - Carnival of the Animals"

SCHOOL children in Lancashire and Cumbria are learning lessons from lions, tigers and elephants this term, thanks to our exciting new interactive music education resource – The Carnival of the Animals.

The pioneering project is a joint venture between The Lancashire Sinfonietta, Lancashire and Cumbria County Council's Music Services, and website for music teachers, Tuned-in. The resources are also available to teachers through the Cumbria and Lancashire Education Online (CLEO) broadband internet network.

The recordings feature the Sinfonietta with Lyn Fletcher (Sinfonietta Director & Leader of the Hallé) on CD Rom & DVD. Carnival LaunchExtras include Video Conferences, Webcasts and Live Workshops supported by a huge online source of teacher lesson plans.

"Carnival" can help teachers to cover a huge range of curriculum subjects from French to Science, Art to Geography. Conservation issues are at the heart of the projects and we're very excited to be involved with experts at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Aquarium of the Lakes.

Children can also experience live workshops in school with African Drummers, a Bollywood dancer, Hip Hop poet & Carnival Artists. In February the Sinfonietta visited 13 schools with our "Monkey Beat" workshops and premiered our "Hit or Miss" video-conference via CLEO to schools in both counties.

A huge interactive school's concert hosted by the Sinfonietta at the Guild Hall next week will see 2,000 children performing from schools across the region.

For more information visit online www.lancs-sinf.com or www.tuned-in.org or call the Lancashire Sinfonietta on 0161 4327925.

Mini-Mozart grows up...

miniGood news for all the babies who have been enjoying their first musical concerts with the Lancashire Sinfonietta - Mini-Mozart is growing up with them and will launch a toddler's session in May.

The new session, "Tunes for Tots", is being developed in partnership with Lancashire Sure Start Early Years and Childcare Service and builds on the huge success of the Mini-Mozart Concert Series for babies.

Over 2,000 babies and parents/carers came to our Mini-Mozart concerts this season and many more have used our music and musical games at home. Some Children's Centres have even started up their own music groups, inspired by our concerts.

Tunes for Tots aims to help even more parents/carers use music at home with their children as a fun activity and a colourful way to aid their development and learning skills.

Please join our mailing list to hear about release dates for Tunes for Tots and Mini-Mozart concerts.
